Union of Journalists’ Delegations Created in Baracoa and
Maisi
The President of the Cuban Union
of Journalists (UPEC), Tubal Paez underscored the
importance of the journalistic work carried out in the
eastern municipalities of Baracoa and Maisi as a means
of transmitting the reality of Cuba

The President of the Cuban Union of
Journalists (UPEC), Tubal Paez officially constituted
the delegations of this organization in the eastern
municipalities of Maisi and Baracoa.
The delegations are composed of
broadcasters from La voz del Sol radio and
television in Maisi (located over thousand kilometres
from Havana City), and professionals from the local TV
station Primada Vision in Baracoa, the first
town founded in Cuba 499 years ago.
Speaking to the press, Paez
underscored the importance of the journalistic work
carried out in these eastern municipalities, where the
population constantly receives foreign signals mostly
intended to transmit the enemy’s subversive message.
Paez
urged the local radio and TV staff to broadcast the real
Cuban state of affairs, as well as the impressive beauty
of the local geography which appears even more radiant
due to the human quality of its people.
Meanwhile, Deysi
Libia Matos Fernández was appointed UPEC’s president in
Maisi; and Jose Ignacio Rodriguez Matos in Baracoa.
Arelis Alba Cobas,took over the CMDX radio station “the
voice of Toa”. on promotion Rodriguez Matos.
In statements to
the International News Agency (AIN), Tubal Paez said
UPEC has currently 4,100 members organized in 177
delegations across the country, including the ones
recently created.
Antonio Marrero,
UPEC’s organizer in eastern Guantanamo, mentioned there
were seven local delegations comprising 117 members
spread out in two radio stations, two television
channels, the local Venceremos newspaper, AIN; plus nine
national press correspondents.
